PLATELET RICH FIBRIN (PRF)

This treatment is relatively new to the market, offering more benefits than the more well-known platelet-rich plasma (PRP). It follows a similar concept of isolating regenerative properties from the client’s blood sample and then injecting them back into the skin; however, PRF is the superior treatment because it includes the protein fibrin.‍

PRF harnesses the remarkable healing and regeneration capability in our blood, specifically from the platelets and growth factors. These growth factors are proteins that stimulate the development of many processes, such as skin remodeling and the healing process.

PRF skin treatments are the evolution of the exceptionally popular PRP skin treatments. It builds on PRP in a couple of fundamental ways to improve results and deliver even more healing potential. PRF skin treatments may contain a much greater concentration of platelets than PRP. Another advantage of PRF is that the treatment may continue to release growth factors over time even after the treatment has been completed.

PRF, platelet-rich fibrin, uses the 100% natural healing power of your own blood to help encourage the production of collagen and elastin and the regeneration of skin cells.

This can result in firmer, smoother, younger-looking skin, that helps maintain a youthful body.

Benefits of PRF skin treatment include:

THE BENEFITS OF PRF

Reduced redness

Softened fine lines

Targeting melasma

Improved skin texture

Reversed photo damage

Halted and reversed hair loss in both male-pattern baldness and thinning in female hair with age, and also in alopecia areata

Stimulating fibroblasts to secrete more collagen, thus plumping and thickening skin

Lightening of dark under-eye circles

TREATMENT AREA & CONDITIONS

PRF treatments can be effective at treating:

  • Wrinkles and fine lines

  • Acne scarring

  • Sagging and discolored skin

  • Damaged skin

  • Hyper-pigmentation

PRF VS PRP

PRF has three times the level of growth factors compared to PRP. The fibrin, used in PRF, creates a temporary clot under the skin and releases the growth factors and platelets slowly over seven to ten days, compared to PRP which releases them all in one day. This is one of the reasons that clinical studies show PRF to outperform PRP in many areas.

HOW IT WORKS?

Your blood is placed in the centrifuge without an anticoagulant in the tube – this allows the formation of a spongy, gel-like product rich in platelets, stem cells, growth factors and fibrin that can be injected into the skin to address signs of aging, hair loss, or skin healing.

Our doctors will assess your face condition prior to treatment, discuss your treatment goals and develop a customized treatment plan. Our doctor will guide you through the entire procedure and obtain your written consent. Once you are ready the treatment will begin.

HOW IS THE PROCEDURE DONE?

Before the procedure

During the procedure

First, we do a simple blood draw into test tubes. Then, we put the test tubes in our centrifuge machine; this separates your platelets and growth factors-rich plasma from the rest of the blood. This will take about 5 minutes. Lastly, the tubes are taken out of the centrifuge and the separated plasma with activated platelets and growth factors is extracted ready for your PRF treatment.

After the procedure

PRF treatments are generally well-tolerated. However, potential side effects for facial treatments may include swelling, bruising, soreness, redness, and tenderness. These are typically mild but can last up to 2 weeks. Post-scalp treatment, you can shower and wash your hair after a few hours, but we advise against using harsh chemicals or colouring products on your hair or scalp for at least 72 hours post-treatment.

BEFORE & AFTER

PRF benefits those seeking a holistic approach to skin and hair rejuvenation. PRF treatments stimulate collagen production and enhance skin firmness, texture, and elasticity. By aiding in collagen production, PRF can help improve the skin’s firmness and texture.

FAQs

Why should you consider a Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) treatment?

Who is the ideal candidate for a PRF treatment?

The ideal candidate for PRF is anyone seeking natural rejuvenation without resorting to synthetic fillers or invasive procedures. It’s a perfect choice for individuals who wish to combat signs of aging, enhance skin texture, treat hair loss, or speed up wound healing.

How long will I see results?

Most patients start to see visible improvements within 2-3 months. Many patients should experience a very natural glow with a more even skin tone, less fine wrinkles and less pigmentation.

How many PRF treatments do I need?

The number of PRF treatments you’ll need depends on the current condition of your skin, your age and overall health. To achieve optimal results, we recommend a course of 3 treatments spaced 1-2 months apart. However, this depends on you as an individual and how you respond to your first PRF skin treatment. Maintenance treatments are suggested every 6 to 12 months. Individual results can vary as the treatment uses your blood and growth factors for rejuvenation.

How long do the results last?

The benefits of PRF skin rejuvenation can typically last between 12-18 months. Much depends on your genetics, health, diet and overall state of wellness.

What exactly is PRF treatment?

PRF treatment is considered the second generation to the very popular PRP skin treatment. It uses the healing power of your own blood to help promote the production of collagen and elastin in the skin.

It uses blood plasma, white blood cells, fibrin and stem cells to encourage the regeneration of skin to reduce the signs of ageing and to help treat a number of skin conditions.

Does PRF have any risks or side effects?

PRF treatments are generally well-tolerated. However, potential side effects for facial treatments may include swelling, bruising, soreness, redness, and tenderness. These are typically mild but can last up to 2 weeks. Post-scalp treatment, you can shower and wash your hair after a few hours, but we advise against using harsh chemicals or colouring products on your hair or scalp for at least 72 hours post-treatment.

Does PRF treatment hurt?

A very mild stingy sensation may be felt when the injections are made. Injections are made with very fine needles or a cannula to minimise the pain and can be administered with a local anaesthetic. You can discuss any concerns you have with us for full support and guidance.

What should you do before and after PRF treatment for the best results?

To ensure optimal results before PRF treatment, it's crucial to abstain from alcohol, tobacco, blood thinners, and painkillers, maintain hydration a week prior, wash your hair on the morning of the session (for hair thinning treatment), and arrive without any makeup.

For best results after PRF treatment, it's essential to steer clear of heavy exercise for 24 hours, refrain from alcohol, tobacco, blood thinners, and painkillers, avoid makeup and touching the treated area for a day, shield from UV rays with a hat, skip styling products (for hair treatment), and shampoo your hair the day after the procedure (for hair treatment), ensuring the best outcome for skin rejuvenation and hair regrowth.

Are there any side effects of Plinest?

As with any injection, you can expect your skin to be slightly red and swollen immediately after the PLINEST procedure. You may experience swelling, bruising, and itchiness, but it’s important to avoid touching the treated area for at least 12 hours. In some rare cases, some patients may experience an allergic reaction to the hyaluronic acid used in the treatment.
